This was our first class on creating a Christmas Colorbowl. Even though we did it in November, the colorbowl will continue to last well into the spring until it gets warm. Most of the plants used are even perennials and will grow on. The cyclamen, in the spring, can be removed and potted into containers alone then set aside in a cool shady location and watered occasionally. The following September start fertilizing them and watering them regularly (but don’t overwater) and they will come out and bloom again for the winter!
Here are some pictures of this fun event.

This is a great opportunity to do something with the whole family.

Samples of what the finished colorbowl could look like.

Picking out the elements for their colorbowl.

Beginning to assemble their masterpiece.

Decisions, decisions.

John adding a timed release fertilizer to the soil for carefree color.
Hope all had a great time. It sure looks like it.

Thanks to all who attended our Christmas Open House on November 7th. I had found it hard lately to get into the holiday spirit but the evening was definitely of the Christmas spirit. The magic of the season was in the air, the weather was perfect and I was surrounded by loved ones. Here are some pictures of the evening.

This is one of my favorite displays in the gift shop right now. It is just so snowy and magical feeling.

The gift shop was definitely glowing that evening.

There is the old fire truck that gave rides back and forth between The Greenery and the First Street businesses that participated. Oh and Santa was there as well!

It doesn't look like Christmas but this display is so cute. I hope it helped give someone some unique ideas for children's Christmas gifts.

The front counter was all decked out and ready for guests. There were lots of goodies to eat and wonderful coffee and cider to drink.

The back room of the gift shop was decorated like a forest of glistening Christmas trees. It is hard not to find something fun here!

As I mentioned, the weather was perfect, just nippy enough to feel like the holiday season but not too cold and it didn't rain!
Well, I hope everyone had a great time, I definitely did. I love how the nursery looks when it is lit up at night. If you have any comments on the evening I would love to hear them!

Now that I have recovered from my Thanksgiving weekend, I am excited to start decorating for Christmas. I have noticed several neighbors already putting up Christmas lights. My son never fails to point out the pretty lights as we drive by them. I love the Christmas season, it is so warm and cheery. If I had the time I would begin celebrating it long before Thanksgiving. As it is I don’t take my Christmas decor down until at least the middle of January. I would have put my outdoor Christmas lights up this weekend but I was not able to. It will have to wait until next weekend.
All of this started when the fresh greens arrived today. All I had to do was take a whiff of the fresh cut fir for it to get me in the holiday spirit. Fresh wreaths, swags and cedar garland by the foot are all available now. I will have to take my favorite home today.
Once I get my fresh greens up I can figure out the Christmas tree. Then I will be searching all our wonderful ornaments for my new favorites.
I hope everybody will enjoy decorating for Christmas as much as I do.
