This was our first class on creating a Christmas Colorbowl. Even though we did it in November, the colorbowl will continue to last well into the spring until it gets warm. Most of the plants used are even perennials and will grow on. The cyclamen, in the spring, can be removed and potted into containers alone then set aside in a cool shady location and watered occasionally. The following September start fertilizing them and watering them regularly (but don’t overwater) and they will come out and bloom again for the winter!
Here are some pictures of this fun event.

This is a great opportunity to do something with the whole family.

Samples of what the finished colorbowl could look like.

Picking out the elements for their colorbowl.

Beginning to assemble their masterpiece.

Decisions, decisions.

John adding a timed release fertilizer to the soil for carefree color.
Hope all had a great time. It sure looks like it.

The fourth seminar this fall is our Shade Tree Seminar, taught by Cam of The Greenery. He will share his passion about trees as he discusses selection, planting and care of shade trees in our valley. Here is a little about him.

Cameron, “Cam”, brings two decades of experience teaching math and science to his position at The Greenery. He is very good at answering questions about plants and explaining products to the customer. Cam’s particular interest in plants is centered on trees, implementing his degree in Forest Management and experience with the USDA Forest Service. When Cam is not working in his garden, he enjoys making carvings out of stone, wood or bone.
Here are some pictures from our seminar.

Thanks to all who attended our Shade Tree Seminar! It sounds like lots was learned. Let me know what you thought!

Here is the second seminar at The Greenery this fall, it is called the Winter Salad Bowl. I am excited to introduce it since I love vegetable gardening in the winter just as much as the summer. We are going to discuss what veggies to grow in the fall and winter, how to grow them and how to incorporate them into your flower bed!
After the seminar I will post a review of the seminar along with pictures and any informational handouts. Hope you can make it!

This seminar was very popular and went very well. I think everybody was excited about growing winter vegetables. They should be, it is so much easier than growing summer vegetables since watering is not an issue (unless you are planting in containers) and there are less insects to deal with. Here is a guide on what vegetables to plant and when. It is a trifold to be printed on both sides of a single page. If you have difficulty printing it, there are copies available in the nursery. vegetables-trifold
Thanks to all who attended, we had a great time!
