Spring
Spring is the time to rejuvenate a tired winter garden. By turning over the soil and adding amendments, your ground will be ready for all the new plants, flowers and vegetables that will add color to your garden. So don't delay, start today.
PLANTING:
Now is the time to see our large selection of roses in all of their blooming glory. We have a nice of roses to choose from! We also have a great selection of fruit trees including Pluots. Our staff of fruit tree experts has the latest information on varieties, taste tests, planting and pruning techniques to help you enjoy more from your home orchard. Don't forget to plant your shade trees now, to take advantage of their cooling shade in summer. We stock a large selection of evergreen and deciduous trees. If you can't find what you are looking for, we'll be happy to order it for you.
LAWN CARE:
Early Spring is the best time to aerate your lawn. Follow with an application of Best Soil Buster to help open up and condition compacted soil. Feed lawns now with an application of Dr. Earth Supernatural Lawn Fertilizer or Scotts Crabgrass Preventer. Control existing weeds with GreenAll Weed N Feed. Remember to start raising your mowing height as the weather gets warmer. Prevent and control lawn disease with Monterey Agrifos. Not sure what you need? Come see our knowledgeable staff.
TREES & SHRUBS:
Feed shrubs and trees every 2 months with Dr. Earth All Purpose Fertilizer. Azaleas, Camellias, Gardenias and Rhododendron should be fed every 2 months after they have finished blooming with Dr. Earth Rhododendron, Azalea and Camellia fertilizer. To control aphids on tender new growth, spray with Monterey Take Down.
ROSES:
Feed roses every 2 months March thru October with Dr. Earth Rose and Flower Fertilizer. Control aphids, spider mites and thrips with Bonide Mitex. Prevent and control blackspot, powdery mildew and rust with Serenade Disease Control or Immunox 3 N 1. Avoid night watering.
FRUIT TREES:
If you haven't done so, give fruit trees their first feeding with Dr. Earth Fruit Tree and Vine fertilizer. To control insects such as aphids and whitefly, spray as needed with Bonide All Seasons spray.
FLOWERS & VEGETABLES:
Energize tired beds by working in Gardener and Bloome Harvest Supreme into existing soil. Feed flowers every two weeks with Greenlight Superbloom. Feed vegetables every two months with Dr. Earth Tomato and Vegetable Fertilizer. (The calcium in this unique plant food helps prevent blossom end rot in tomatoes and peppers). If tomatoes bloom but fail to set fruit, spray blossoms with TOMATO SET. To control caterpillars on petunias, geraniums, snapdragon and tomatoes spray every 7-10 days with Monterey Garden Insect Spray.
